The short version
Presence needs to know when you arrive somewhere. That's the whole product. We collect your location to make that work nothing more, nothing less. We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't build a profile of your movement patterns. Your location is a tool for connection, not a product we monetize.
Presence is an iOS application developed and operated by Matthew Suber ("we," "us," or "our"). If you have questions about this policy, contact us at [email protected].
Location data. Presence collects your device's location in the background when the app is active. Location is collected at the precision necessary to determine whether you have arrived at a place defined in one of your rules (typically city-level or venue-level). We do not continuously log your precise GPS coordinates. Location checks occur when your device detects significant location changes and when evaluating rule conditions.
Phone number. We collect your phone number for account creation and verification via SMS. Your phone number is your account identifier. We use Twilio to deliver one-time verification codes. We do not use your phone number for marketing.
Account data. This includes your display name, username, and profile photo if provided.
Usage data. We collect anonymized event data (such as rule creation, arrival events, and app interactions) to understand how the app is used and improve it. This data is stored in Supabase and is not linked to your precise location history.
Communications. If you contact us via email or the feedback form, we retain that correspondence.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We share limited data only as follows:
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from within the app. Deletion removes your profile, rules, location data, and associated records permanently. There is no retention period following deletion.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting [email protected] or using the in-app account deletion feature. California residents have additional rights under CCPA, including the right to know what data we collect and the right to opt out of sale (we do not sell data).
Presence is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us immediately.
We use industry-standard security practices including HTTPS for all data in transit and encrypted storage at rest via Supabase. No system is perfectly secure; we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to contact us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification or email. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
